He Fought The Good Fight

Last Thursday, I received the sad news from my dad that his daddy and my last living grandfather had died in his sleep while at the hospital being treated for gout. While Pa had been battling heart disease for quite some time, the news still brought grief and sadness for our family. We celebrated his precious life of 84 years on Saturday in Andalusia, AL with our family and friends. My dad gave a moving tribute to his father as he spoke of the lasting legacy of loyalty, faithfulness, discipline, and a life lived for the Lord. It was a sweet time, and then in good southern small town fashion, we gathered in the fellowship hall for an amazing spread of food that was made by friends in the community.

Death is never easy, but when the person who has died knows Jesus, it certainly eases some of the pain. We know that Pa is with His Savior in a better place. We know he is healed and enjoying all the splendor of being in the presence of God. We know he fought the good fight and finished the race well. He was kind, simple, patient, giving, loving, serving, but most of all He knew the One who would give him eternal life. And for that, we are thankful. We will miss Pa, but we will see him again and in that we rejoice!
